Software Setup & Training

Ever thought about moving to cloud-based software?

We can assist with setting up online accounting software and providing training. This includes:

  • Creating and setting up your business account in the cloud-based software selected
  • Setting up relevant templates including invoices
  • Setting up contacts including customers, suppliers and employees
  • Full software training with your team

Bookkeeping

We conduct bookkeeping activities on behalf of your business to ensure all financial information is up to date, so you never have to stress again. These activities include:

  • Monthly reconciliation of bank and credit card statements
  • Monthly reconciliation of accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Paperless payables—supplier invoices and receipts imported via online software
  • Debtor reminders
  • Maintaining data feeds into your accounting software files

Business Activity Statements (BAS)

Want to take the surprise out of your BAS creeping up on you?

Preparation and lodgement of Business Activity Statements (BAS)

This includes:

  • General advice, attendance to ATO reports
  • Review of your operation of BAS for compliance with regulations and best practice
  • Complete BAS computations for the period
  • Attendance to the subsequent lodgement of the Business Activity Statement (BAS) with the Australian Taxation Office

Taxable Payments Annual Reports (TPAR)

We can prepare your Taxable Payments Annual Reports (‘TPAR’). This includes:

  • Setting up relevant suppliers and checking figures
  • Reviewing that the following information for all subcontractors is complete within the contacts section of the supplier card details:
    • Contractor’s name (that appears on the invoice the contractor provided)
    • Contractor’s ABN
    • Contractor’s address
    • Contact has been registered in the accounting software as ‘reportable TPAR supplier’
  • If the above subcontractor information is incomplete, preparing and sending you a report seeking further information required to complete the TPAR

We can also help with lodging your TPAR with the ATO. This includes:

  • Preparing your TPAR within accounting software and sending it to you for review and signature authority
  • Upon receiving signature authority, uploading your TPAR to the ATO for lodgment

Payroll

Keep your staff happy with our payroll processing service. This includes:

  • Processing periodic wages using payroll software
  • Calculating superannuation for employees if applicable
  • Calculating and tracking accrued vacation and sick time or other benefits
  • Providing direct deposit for your employees
  • Facilitating online access to and/or emailing payslips

Please note: payroll services specifically exclude payroll tax reconciliations and lodgment, as well as annual workers’ compensation reconciliation and lodgment.

Superannuation

Don’t get caught out with missed entitlements—meet your superannuation obligations with our help. We can assist with: 

  • Calculating all necessary and requested superannuation components and lodging through SuperStream if requested
  • Preparing employee superannuation for payment
  • Paying employees their superannuation

Single Touch Payroll Phase 2 Advice & Setup (STP)

Single Touch Payroll Phase 2 (‘STP2’) makes it easier for you to report specific payment details made to employees across all income streams. However, this means more complete digital records and reporting are required. We can help with:

  • Setting up STP2 for your business
  • STP2 training
  • Ongoing advice and support

Instalment Activity Statements (IAS)

Can’t tell your IAS from your BAS?

That’s what we’re for! We can assist with preparing and lodging your Instalment Activity Statements (‘IAS’). This includes:

  • Reconciling wages, superannuation and PAYG tax
  • Preparing IAS for the period in relation to staff PAYG
  • Preparing final IAS including schedules for your approval and signature

Why does Open Bookkeeping Australia only use Xero?

We exclusively use Xero because it’s designed to simplify bookkeeping for small businesses. As a cloud-based platform, Xero allows real-time access to financial data from anywhere, making it easy to stay on top of your records. Its seamless integration with various business tools, like payroll and inventory systems, ensures smooth operations. Xero also enhances compliance and accuracy, helping to avoid costly errors and keep your business audit-ready. By focusing solely on Xero, we can provide specialized, consistent, and reliable service for all our clients.

Are you registered BAS agents?

Yes, Open Bookkeeping Australia is officially registered with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) as a BAS Agent Registration Number: 26300519

What is your fee structure?

At Open Bookkeeping Australia, we’ve transitioned to a fixed fee pricing model to better align with the diverse needs of our clients. This ensures a transparent pricing structure, allowing us to tailor our offerings to your unique requirements and provide the highest value for your investment. How long is the term of your engagement agreements?

We offer 6-month engagement agreements to ensure flexibility and consistency in our services. After the initial term, we can review and renew the agreement based on your needs. However, if the service is not right for you, there are no contracts.

Can you just lodge my BAS?

While this was a service we used to offer, we found that clients often faced issues when reconciling their own accounts—deadlines were missed, and errors were frequently made in GST coding. Without full control over the bookkeeping process, we can’t guarantee the accuracy of the work, which could lead to costly mistakes and compliance problems. By outsourcing your entire bookkeeping to us, you eliminate the stress and ensure everything is done right. This allows you to focus on driving your business forward and increasing revenue, while we handle the financial details.

Where is Open Bookkeeping Australia located?

We operate from Adelaide, South Australia. As a 100% remote business, we can help clients regardless of where they are in Australia.

Do you use digital paperwork?

We are proudly 100% digital so do not use hardcopy paperwork unless required by legislation.

Do you provide Xero training?

We offer basic Xero training, particularly for invoicing, so you can stay on top of getting paid. However, for the more complex aspects like tax or GST entries, we no longer offer comprehensive training as it requires a deep understanding of accounting principles. That’s where we step in to ensure your books are accurate and compliant, freeing you from the guesswork.
